The ABCs of Marijuana Retail Taxes

On July 1, 2018, marijuana retail tax became the newest tax type to be added to MassTaxConnect, as the result of a ballot initiative in November of 2016 legalizing adult use marijuana in the state.

Currently, applicants for a cannabis license are applying for a Certificate of Good Standing with DOR to start the licensing process. Once licensed by the Cannabis Control Commission, the next course of action is to register with MassTaxConnect to file and pay marijuana retail taxes.
