Important Information Regarding IP Pins

We have been notified by the IRS that due to an error, taxpayers are receiving Identity Protection PIN letters with an incorrect year listed. Taxpayers and tax professionals should be advised the IP PIN listed on the CP 01A Notice dated January 4, 2016 is valid for use on all 2015 individual tax returns.

The notice incorrectly indicates the IP PIN issued is to be used for filing the 2014 tax return when the number is actually to be used for the 2015 tax return. The IRS emphasizes the IP PIN listed on the CP 01A notice is valid for the 2015 returns. Taxpayers and their tax professionals should use this PIN number for 2015 tax returns, which the IRS will begin accepting from taxpayers starting January 19, 2016.

The IRS apologizes for the confusion and any inconvenience.

Chapter President's Update

I feel honored to have been elected chapter President by our Board of Directors.  As we begin the new year,  I look forward to working with the Board in building upon the successes achieved by our Chapter over the last 20 years.
Our education program for 2016 is well underway, beginning with our State Tax Update to be held in Sturbridge on Thursday, January 7, and our Chapter Education Chair, Tracey Bell, has secured our own Cheryl Morse as the education presenter for the annual conference in Mansfield on October 25. Cheryl  has presented timely tax topics before tax professional groups, including U Mass Tax School and NATP 1040 Update seminars .  I invite you to visit our blog (www.massrinatp.blogspot,com) to view additional information as it develops.  The blog not only provides information concerning Chapter activities, but in addition has almost daily posts of current tax-related information that will assist us in our own tax practices.
The Board continues to hold its scheduled meetings throughout the year at strategic locations in the Mass/Rhode Island area.  These meetings are open to our membership, and again I invite you to visit our blog as to the time and locations.
I wish each and every one of you a successful tax season, and I reach out to you for your welcomed ideas and comments as to ways we can continue to serve you in your tax practice.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in Sturbridge on the 7th.
